I THEN TRIED TO MAKE CONTACT WITH WAMBLI SINA WIIN A HEYOKA,JUDGE AND EDUCATIONALIST IN BACONE COLLEGE . OKLAHOMA AFTER READING HER ARTICLE IN THE NATIVE TIMES HEYOKA A MAN TALLER THAN HIS SHADOW HERE IS MY EMAIL MESSAGE Hello,
Well, firstly I should introduce myself. My name is Jo Osborne. I am an artist and a mature student studying for an MA in Fine Art at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, Swansea Campus, South Wales, UK. I recently read your article in the native times "A man taller than his shadow" which I very much enjoyed. So I hope you don't mind me getting in touch regarding this subject.
Until recently, I was completely unaware of the Heyoka. They came into my awareness through a meeting with a fellow artist. He had some knowledge on the subject and mentioned that he had never met anyone with all the characteristics of a Heyoka before. After he explained a bit more about them, I researched and was astounded to discover the similarities I share with Heyoka people .
This subject matter falls very easily into my current project. I have been looking at identity, gender and intolerance and asking questions about cultural appropriation and recontextualization. I have my own opinions on this, and I now find myself very much in the middle of the subject I am researching, which leads to my questions. Do you believe the Heyoka can transcend different cultures? And what is your own outlook on cultural appropriation?
I would love to chat with you or other Heyoka on this subject. If you could find the time to slot me in?
Thank you for taking the time to read my email. I wish you the very best of health and look forward to your reply.
Cheers
